STOP THAT TRAIN!

Hi Everyone

This is Riya the Director of Rescue Junction with another update.

May I wish you all a belated Happy New Year!

Here at the junction we are as busy as ever, the winter warmth appeal has not been as successful as previous years but our staff have nonetheless been distributing blankets and warm clothing to the street children.

As you probably already know Rescue Junction is unique in many ways not least that we one of the very few centres that caters for both boys and girls hence of course this special appeal.

Priyanka (we have changed the name) was travelling from Calcutta to Delhi recently on a nonstop express in the company of her father.

Whilst there are no passenger stops the train does stop from time to time to change drivers and for cleaning and water etc. At one such stop her father got down from the train but did not return. Priyanka became very distressed and one concerned fellow passenger called the emergency ChildLine number 1098.

We contacted the railway authorities and although the train does not stop at Gaya a special emergency stop was ordered so Priyanka could be transferred to the safety of Rescue Junction.

The staff are expert at supporting lost and distressed children whom sometimes have been terribly abused. In our special unit for girls our female staff comfort support and reassure. The craft training helps build confidence and along with the education the girls receive  they are helped along the path to healing and self-confidence. Your donations help us so much in this work.

Thank you all.

Sadly when a child is abandoned like Priyanka , this was no single mistake by her father who had remarried and had made it plain she was not wanted, there is a lot of damage to repair , but we are looking for a caring relative to care for her and there is a lot of hope that the team will be successful and help a start a brand new life  .

Riya
