What would you do if your worst nightmare happened

Hi Everyone!

Yes, it’s me! Riya from Rescue Junction

Greetings to you all from Bihar

For this update I thought we would do something we have not done before and ask a parent to write something about their experiences of our programme here for girls, (we have of course changed the name)

The following is unedited

“Namaste.

My name is Pramila Devi.

I have been married for 20 years and I have two sons and two daughters. We are not poor but certainly not rich.  We live in Gaya. I work as a primary schoolteacher. My husband drives a taxi.

We get by, we had no complaints, everybody has ups and downs. This is part of life. But what can prepare you for your daughter going missing? She is just 13 years of age. I was frantic we all were retracing her steps to school, visiting places, asking everybody and anybody, have you seen her!  Please God, have you seen her?

We did not know what to do. Then my youngest daughter remembered that a team from Rescue Junction had spoken to her school and told to ring the toll-free number 1098 if ever they were in trouble or saw something bad happening to a child. We called the number and someone answered immediately. A lady came to her house within 45 minutes offering support, taking details, contacting the police. helping us make the missing report and she notified the entire network they have of my missing daughter.

And then two days later a miracle happened. The police raided the house of a known trafficker and my daughter was found fightened but well, being kept in the basement.

She went to the care of Rescue Junction and she eventually told the tale of how a boy had befriended her and tricked her to going to this house.

On the advice of the staff at Rescue Junction she spent a couple of weeks there learning craft skills and steadily gaining confidence until she was ready to come home.

I cannot describe to you my feelings when I was reunited with my daughter at the Junction. I cannot describe to you how much we appreciated their support throughout this unspeakable ordeal. Their support continues even now. If you can do anything to help them continue their work I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you.

Pramila Devi

Please mark in your calendars Thursday October 5th as GlobalGiving Bonus Day when your kind donations will go further !!!

Thank you All

 Riya
