Specialized push-button telephone for blind users

We have good news!

Dear friends!

During the reporting period, our team worked to fix bugs in the following Smartphone apps:

Voice Recorder, Emergency Calls, Keyboard, Alarm Clock.

YouTubePlayer

We resolved an issue where the player would not play videos.

Home Screen

Bugs have been fixed.

The following functions have been added to the power menu:

Seven opens the USB connection mode settings for the computer;

Eight creates a screenshort;

Nine opens the Wi-Fi hotspot settings.

The Home Screen app has become a screen reader for apps we develop.

The TalkBack screen reader is only used when launching third-party apps.

This solution has had a positive impact on battery life, speed, and stability.

An issue with character pronunciation when typing while using the Home Screen screen reader has been resolved. In the Sound & Screen section of Settings, features have been added to the Star button to help extend battery life.

Pressing the Star button once or twice allows you to set an audible alarm for full and critically low battery conditions.

The following values are available:

"Off," "Once," "Every 10 minutes," "Every 5 minutes," "Every 2 minutes," and "Every minute."

AGM M7 phone firmware.

When the phone manufacturer changed the internal memory model, it became impossible to flash phones with the new memory.

However, our programmer was able to solve this problem, despite constant shelling and extended power outages in the city where he lives.

Conquest F3 phone firmware

Work on adapting/modifying the firmware for this touchscreen smartphone is nearing completion.

We have already reported that our project has received a sequel – "Ukrainian Speech Synthesizer for Blind Apple Users – Digital Dignity and Accessibility" – and has received support from the Act to Drive Change Acceleration Program of the "Phoenix: The Power of Communities" project, funded by the Eastern Europe Foundation.

This is an important milestone, on which our team has been working for over six months with inspiration, attention to detail, and belief in its necessity. Our app is for people with visual impairments who use screen readers and speech synthesizers for communication, learning, and using phones and computers:

- Schoolchildren, students,

- Senior citizens,

- Blind professionals: lawyers, psychologists, teachers, programmers, etc.

The problem we're working on:

The Apple ecosystem (iOS/macOS) lacks a high-quality Ukrainian system voice for VoiceOver.

The existing options don't provide comfortable long-term implementation for visually impaired users, nor do they provide accurate reading of mixed texts (Russian/English, numbers, links), nor do they provide stable system integration.

Consequences:

- Decreased productivity during learning and work;

- Forced use of a second language;

- Barriers to accessing digital services.
