In early, 2015, Mr Nagaraju and his younger daughter Marie walked into Sphoorti office with a serious issue.
Nagaraju was working as a driver and lost his job due to illness. Marie was studying in STD IV then. Nagaraju was not in a position to pay the rest of the fee to the school and decided to stop sending his daughter to school.
We took Marie to the school where she was studying and paid the rest of her school fee. The school Principal told us that there were a lot of children in the neighborhood like Marie whose parents were not in a position to pay school fee. Most girl children were being discouraged from pursuing further studies because of the costs involved.
We have been getting a lot of requests from poor parents about providing support to children from Sphoorti. We decided to try our best to reach out to and sponsor education of at least 200 girl children to start with.
The average cost of schooling is $140. We request each of our friends to sponsor at least one child. We have identified more than 400 children to be supported through this initiative. We have started identifying the beneficiary children and tabulating information about their family situation.
You may make a donation through Global Giving website. We have received over $5500 so far. We will be utilizing this money towards part payment of school fees.
We thank each of our benefactors for helping Sphoorti a permanent spot on Global Giving. It is a matter of pride and good fortune for Sphoorti and all our children.
