Khamiso - A Hepatitis patient

By Rubina Husain and Hareem Khalid Baig | Admin Assistant and Senior Associate Marketing

Khamiso, is a watchman residing in Siddique Goth, Dhabeji Market, District Thatta. For nearly two years, he has experienced recurring fevers, swelling in his body, and other symptoms linked to liver complications. Due to financial constraints, he was unable to seek proper medical care. His income was limited to meeting daily household expenses, and private treatment was not an option.

Khamiso visited a health facility in Malir, where he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, however the treatment offered was unaffordable, leaving him without a clear path forward. It was during this time that he learned  about the SHINE Humanity Hepatitis Program operating at Gharo Clinic.

He visited SHINE Humanity's Gharo Clinic on October 21, 2024, where he underwent free routine screening for Hepatitis B and C. His HCV screening test returned positive, and after completing the required assessments, a PCR test confirmed the diagnosis. His treatment commenced on January 24, 2025. Over the course of six months, Khamiso remained consistent with follow-up appointments, during which his vital signs, nutritional intake, and overall condition were closely monitored. He adhered to the treatment plan as advised.

By June 2025, Khamiso had completed the full six-month course of treatment. His health showed marked improvement - he no longer experienced weakness, had gained weight, and reported feeling significantly better. He expressed gratitude for the care he received and acknowledged the respectful and supportive environment provided by the clinic staff.

Khamiso's case underscores the impact of community-based, accessible healthcare programs in improving outcomes for patients with limited resources. SHINE Humanity is thankful for your support and belief in our programs. Your donations enable us to carry out our mission of providing comprehensive primary care to under-served communities and improving their lives
