As a normal pregnancy procedure, María went to have an ultrasound in her second pregnancy, this would not only determine if it was a boy or a girl, but it would also show her one of the worst scenarios for her at that time, the doctor told her that Luna would be born with spina bifida, without much knowledge on the subject, María imagined the worst for her little girl's life.
Being treated by a specialist doctor, Maria began to understand that spina bifida is a condition that occurs when the spine and spinal cord do not develop correctly. Today, Luna is 4 years old and from the Fundación Patronato we support her with comprehensive rehabilitation therapies, through which she receives care at home, early stimulation, motor skills, plastic arts, pedagogical initiation, music, hydrotherapy, self-care and story readings.
The advances in comprehensive rehabilitation therapies and the support of her family, little by little show Luna that with some adaptations she can do everything she wants to do. For example, she enjoys dancing, singing, and playing with her siblings.
Luna's story inspires us to seek better health opportunities for her and many other children like her. With your help we can continue to provide Luna with the therapies she requires to improve her quality of life.
