According to the latest Gender report revealed by the World Economic Forum, Pakistan is the second worst country in the world for women. Especially in rural areas, women must often put their own health aside to deal with the needs of their familiy
A 30 year old patient came to our clinic complaining of severe abdominal pain as well as constant backache. Our doctors diagnosed her with uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus, and immediately enrolled her in our Diabetes, Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia Program. Under this program she received counselling and dietary advice as well as low cost medications. Over the next few months her health improved and her HbA1c tests showed a positive trend.
Cases like this show the importance of primary healthcare in rural communities as early detection allows us to treat diseases before they reach severity. SHINE's Diabetes program provides a holistic treatment to patients for free which includes lifestyle modification, medicinal treatment, eye care and nutritional counselling. Here's to hoping our efforts help to reduce the disease burden of Diabetes in Pakistan.
