Background at a Glance

Action 2 Africa (A2A) is dedicated to uplifting the lives of residents in Bungoma County, situated in western Kenya. With a population of 1.6 million spread across 2,068 square kilometers, the county predominantly comprises the Luhya ethnic group, notably the Bukusu, alongside minorities from various Kenyan communities. Its economy centers on agriculture, encompassing maize, coffee, sugarcane, tea, dairy, and poultry farming.

Despite its agricultural richness, widespread poverty persists due to limited employment prospects, fostering crime and instability. The burgeoning population strains essential services, compelling children, expectant mothers, and the elderly to endure lengthy journeys for access. This scarcity fosters competition and discord, undermining social unity. Additionally, numerous children abandon their education, with girls disproportionately affected by child labor and premature marriages, hindering their growth and learning, and familial disintegration, frequently driven by poverty, further unsettles the community. Moreover, the HIV/AIDS crisis has left many children without parental care, and many unhoused families in need of assistance, which only exacerbates social unrest.

While there are many challenges in the community we work in, A2A actively works to tackle these challenges through initiatives such as child educational sponsorships, microloans, and water sanitation. We extend scholarships encompassing tuition, uniforms, books, and supplies to economically disadvantaged families. Additionally, we provide microloans and guidance to local entrepreneurs, with a focus on women, to establish or expand small enterprises, while simultaneously working to improve water access in communities. While our work enhances education opportunities, promotes economic empowerment, strengthens community support, and fosters social cohesion, we could not continue our work without your support. Thank you to those who support the work we are doing; we deeply appreciate you!
