On September 25, classes began at the new symphony orchestra MUVI El Refugio.
The name of this orchestra has a double reason; the first one is taken from the physical place where the classes will be held, which is the ejido El Refugio, located in the municipality of Ciudad Fernández, San Luis Potosí; the second one is because of what MUVI means to our students, a refuge where they can learn, be safe, be themselves, have fun and grow as a person. At MUVI we want the community music group to be just that, a refuge where people can take ownership of it and create community.
This group will be a symphony orchestra, where 112 children and young people began classes on September 25. The teaching staff is made up of an orchestra conductor, a logistics coordinator, a community facilitator and 9 teachers.
This orchestra is the result of two years of efforts involving international organizations, migrant countrymen and women in the United States, businessmen in the region, authorities and community leaders. Thanks to all these efforts, 180 musical instruments were donated by foundations from Canada and the United States, such as Instrumental Angels, Hungry for Music & Instruments Beyond Borders.
These instruments arrived in San Luis Potosi with the support of companies such as DHL, GOMSA, FUNERALES LARA DE RAFAEL LARA Y MISIÓN FUNERAL RAFAEL LARA E HIJOS S.A. DE C.V., as well as a network of allies.
Having the opportunity to observe children, just like them, in a concert that represents the work done for 1 year, is a great incentive for the new students who are starting. The concert-inauguration was held at Secundaria Técnica no. 2, which is also the place where the orchestra classes will be held, Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 in the afternoon.
We thank all the people who have made possible this youth symphony orchestra where 112 families will benefit.
