Rising Drug Use Among Nigerian Youth

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear donors,

We sincerely thank you who has already given toward the “Not Too Young to Quit” anti-drug film project. Your support shows care for the safety and future of young people in Nigeria. While this support is appreciated, the funds received so far are not enough to begin production. More support is needed so the work can start step by step.

Drug use among Nigerian youth is growing fast, and its effects are now clear in schools and communities. Some students use drugs during school hours, leading to poor conduct, violence, and harm to others, including young girls. Many young people do not fully understand the health, social, and legal risks tied to drug use. In low-income areas, open conversations on this issue are rare, and many youths depend on peers or online content that may push unsafe choices.

This project seeks to produce a youth-focused film titled “Not Too Young to Quit.” The film will share real stories from Nigerian youths, using familiar settings and language they relate to. It will be shown in schools, youth centers, informal settlements, and through mobile screenings in places where drug use is spreading quietly. The goal is to speak to young people in a clear and honest way before drug use becomes a habit that is hard to stop.

To move this project forward, more funds are needed to begin filming, editing, and early screenings. Every contribution, big or small, will help us start production and reach young people with messages that can guide safer choices. Your support can help protect lives, support learning, and give many youths a better path forward.

with many thanks,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
