Dear Friends and Supporters,
Alongside remembrance, we continue to invest in hope for the future. This Summer, FYF students visited the Duhok National Museum and historic sites across the region, deepening their understanding of local history and culture. These experiences continue to open space for learning and reflection, encouraging students to see their place in the story of their community.
ENGLISH STUDENTS EXPLORE HISTORY AND HERITAGE
As part of the Summer intensive program, our students from the English Access Program in Sheikhan took a break from the classroom to visit the Duhok National Museum, exploring unique artifacts and learning more about the region’s history. They also toured important historical sites, including the Jarwana Aqueduct, the Tomb of Prophet Nahum, and the Old Alqosh Village.
AHLAM'S STORY: FINDING STRENGTH THROUGH ART AND EDUCATION

"This program has helped me build new friendships and grow in confidence and leadership. My English has also improved a lot."
Ahlam Ayad is a 17-year-old student from Sinjar, who is not living in displacement with her family in Sheikham. After the genocide, her family lost their home, their safety, and the stability and quality of life they once had. Despite all challenges, Ahlam tries to stay hopeful. She has a passion for painting, which allows her to escape into another world full of colors and peace. Her dream is to become a succesful painter and an independent woman who can inspire others.
By bringing together Yezidi and Muslim youth, the English Access Program fosters not only language skills but also unity and social cohesion. During the last two years, Ahlam has improved her English, built self-confidence and made new friends from diverse backgrounds, forming bonds that might not have been possible otherwise. She believes every young person deserves quality educational opportunities, and she hopes that more programs and job opportunities will be created for young girls to help families rebuild their lives and achieve real independence.
Experiences like these remind us why we continue to invest in learning, exploration, and growth for the next generation.
Thank you for standing with us as we continue this vital work. Together, we are building a stronger, brighter future.
Sincerely,
Pari Ibrahim
