Welcome decorations

Last week we celebrated a very special day at Fundación DEHVI's child centers. We celebrated "La Anexión del Partido de Nicoya" (Nicoya's Annex to Costa Rica). On July 25th 1824, the people of the region of Nicoya, which used to belong to Nicaragua, decided to voluntarily become part of Costa Rica. Every year since then, Costa Rica celebrates enthusiastically this day because this "annex" brought Costa Rica a lot of culture and nature and we could not imagine our country without so many beautiful beaches, delicious food and colorful traditions.

Therefore, we celebrated in our child centers this exciting occasion! All the teachers and students were in charge of the child centers decorations and they did an amazing job. You could sense the effort, love, and creativity they put on for the big day.

The big celebratory day came and we decided to invite the families and communities to be part of them! In Loto, the families participated making their own "carreta típica" (traditional ox cart), in Pavas, the families created life-size campesinos (country man and woman) with traditional clothing, in San Juan the families shared the "¡uiip uiip uiip: bombas!" (traditional rhymes) that they have learned and known since they were young children, and in Hatillo the families participated in the traditional dances the children had prepared. However, these dances in Hatillo were really special because the elders form the elderly center next to the child center also danced with the children!

We love these celebrations because families get to see what their children have been learning at the child centers and little by little they are beginning to understand the importance of their children's education. These celebrations are very special as well because we incorporate the community in our activities like dancing with the elderly in Hatillo and sharing rides on a real traditional ox cart in San Juan. This is very important to us because we do not only work directly with the children in order to maximize their early development, but we also work with their eco-system (family and community) because we want these children to grow with love everywhere around them, with the best attention possible, and the best opportunities.

Thanks to you, we are able to keep providing these children with the best materials and best professionals so they can have a quality early education and alimentation and so they can enjoy celebrations like "Anexión del Partido de Nicoya". Thanks to your recurring donations, we are able to benefit more than 400 boys and girls (yes, we are growing really fast!) and many more children to come!

Kind regards,

Inge Hernandez
