At the age of three, Paola's sweater caught fire in her home, and she received severe burns over much of her body.
She began her rehabilitation treatment at the COANIQUEM center in Santiago, Chile, in 2003.
She has continued in treatment through the years and remains a periodic patient for follow-up procedures.
See the pictures and reports of her progress over the years. She is now a happy 17 year-old young woman.
Paola is an extreme example and one of the longest-term patients at COANIQUEM, but her story shows the dedication and capacity of COANIQUEM to change the lives of children like her. Surgeries, therapy, psychological care for Paola and her family, on-site schooling as she returned for treatments, professional and friendly support from all in contact with her.
Contributions to the U.S.-based COANIQUEM Burned Children Foundation go directly to support the treatment of children like Paola.
Contributions also support the prevention activities of COANIQUEM, through school and community campaigns, and even through efforts to obtain government support for prevention measures.
Please join this effort to support - and to prevent - the life-changing treatment of these children!
