The rules, regulations and changes in medical protocols necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic have been addressed successfully by the Coaniquem staff. Because of travel restrictions, the treatment of many children had to be addressed through telemedicine. Instructions on wound dressing replacement and other procedures that could be done remotely were taught and monitored telemedicine. Cases that did need treatment at the Coaniquem hospital, such as surgeries, proceeded as usual, but the follow on care was accomplished in many cases by telemedicine.
The Lloyd Baysdorfer Memorial Fund, whose sole purpose is to fund the purchase of the revolutionary new laser treatment of scar tissues, is near its goal to raise $50,000. This new procedure utilizes lasers to keep scar tissue more soft and pliable by creating micro-perforations in the scar; and will promote healthy tissue around and beneath it. This will speed up the recovery of the child and the possibilities of reducing scarring. See the previous report in this series for more details.
