The restrictions due to Covid have relaxed significantly in person treatment of children has partially resumed, but the treatment of many children still has to be addressed through telemedicine. Instructions on wound dressing replacement and other procedures that could be done remotely were taught and monitored telemedicine. Cases that do need treatment at the Coaniquem hospital, such as surgeries, proceeded as usual, and the follow on care can be accomplished by telemedicine in many cases. In all cases, the rules, regulations and changes in medical protocols necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic have been addressed successfully by the Coaniquem staff.
The new Laser Treatment device, made possible in part by the monies collected in memory of Lloyd Baysdorfer, is now in operation. This new procedure utilizes lasers to keep scar tissue more soft and pliable by creating micro-perforations in the scar; and will promote healthy tissue around and beneath it. This approach speeds up the recovery and reduces the possibilities of severe scarring.
