Positive results of our advocacy towards refugees

By Kulihoshi M | Provincial Coordinator of North Kivu

Here are the following activities we have managed to do with funding from our own contributions

Working with National Mechanisms of the follow-up

We have already set-up a working relationship with the National Coordinator of the Mechanisms at national level and discussions are rotating around refugee issues. Our first effort was to share with them information and ideas on what to do. This has helped the coordinator of the national mechanisms to work on a concept which will help to set-up the very first coordination of various actors interested on this refugee thematic, once the funding will be available, the mechanism will hold the very first national workshop focusing on refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The New Refugee Law

We have already proposed the draft of the new refugee law governing refugees in DRC which we wish to replace the current policy, we are so glad that recently the Speaker of the Parliament announced his intention to introduce this new law to the Parliament. More advocacy work is much needed.

Refugee focal points

We have also managed to establish refugee focal points in the following provinces: Kinshasa, Ubangi North, and South, Ituri, Tchopo, North Kivu, South Kivu, Kindu, Tanganyika, Katanga, and Lomami. This helps us to fully control the situation of refugees in DRC. More other provinces are also need and we shall continue with this work.

Challenges

The main challenge we have in this project is only related to funding, that is why we continue to appeal to all actors and people of good will to fund our activities.
