Sport taking place in Karachi school
Youth Sport Trust International's expert trainer was back in Karachi in March this year to support the development of a five year plan to transform further the teaching of physical education in schools and expand competition opportunities for children in cricket, rounders and athletics, as well as introducing additional sports.
With over 235 schools reached already through an initial pilot and thousands of children now enjoying the benefits of high-quality physical education, a new organisation based in Karachi - Jawaan Champions - has been created to deliver much wider rollout. An intense planning phase has been underway to align lesson plans with the curriculum in the Sindh province where Karachi is situated. These will cover invasion games, striking games and athletics for the under 9s, under 12s and under14s age groups. Work is also taking place to shape and redevelop the competition strategy in order to maximise the number of children who can benefit from the experience of competition and a pathway to sports clubs.
'Thank you for leading us and all your work in Karachi you have helped us moved forward and we now have a clear strategic plan for the curriculum.' (Feedback from Implementation Director in country to Youth Sport Trust International expert trainer)
A follow up visit to monitor progress and mentor support the Jawaan Champion Master Trainers by Youth Sport Trust International is planned for August 2025.
Thank you for your support.

Fun and skill development for children in Karachi
By Helen Vost | Managing Director
Newly trained teachers by Youth Sport Trust International in Karachi has resulted in thousands more children benefitting from weekly physical education and sport sessions. The capacity building 'trainer the trainer' model which has been established means that there is now an in country cadre of 'Master Trainers' with the required skills to train more practitioners themselves.
What began as a small pilot in 2019 has now grown to over 200 schools and given thousands of children the opportunity to take part in inter school competitions in cricket and rounders. Plans are in place through the establishment of a new organisation, Jawaan Champions, to reach more schools year on year and introduce additional sports as well as expanding to other parts of Pakistan.
Youth Sport Trust International will be back in country shortly to deliver further training and monitor the progress which has been made since the last visit in 2024.
With your help we can continue to develop the delivery of high quality physical education to children across Karachi and beyond.

Spotlight on high quality Physical Education
By Helen Vost | Managing Director

Youth Sport Trust International was back in Karachi, Pakistan in June to deliver further training to upskill practitioners to become ‘Master Trainers’ themselves. Our expert trainers worked with a group of 17 teachers who had been identified from prior training as having the necessary knowledge, interest and motivation to be able to implement high quality Physical Education Training to other teachers in schools.
This ‘train the trainer’ model is proving highly effective in building an in-country cadre of Master Trainers and thereby ensuring that the initial Physical Education and sport competition pilot delivered by Youth Sport Trust International in 2019 can become sustainable and be rolled out more widely. The focus of the course was on:
- Developing trainer skills and competencies
- Understanding fundamental movement and games’ skills
- Understanding Physical Education
- Alignment with the Pakistan curriculum
- Developing progression in Physical Education
All participants gave positive feedback about the training
- Trainers set clear objectives and expectations
- Flow of the training content was clear
- Complex topics were broken into manageable chunks
- Training was interactive and engaging
- The course was delivered at a pace appropriate to my needs
Although Youth Sport Trust International will continue to provide ongoing guidance, we are delighted that there is now an upskilled workforce in Karachi to ensure thousands of children are receiving high quality Physical Education lessons. This would not have been possible without generous donations and we are most grateful for your support. THANK YOU.
