The Coaches Sesstion
2 medals. 1 silver, 1 bronze.
That was India’s medal count at the 2016 Olympics. A nation of 1.2 billion people scored fewer medals than countries less than one tenth of its size. For all its talk of becoming a rising sporting nation, India has yet to travel the distance it will take to accomplish this goal.
Among many reasons for the above-mentioned grim scenario, the most important one is a lack of grassroots level coaching. Primary and secondary school Physical Education/ Training teachers aren’t trained for their jobs. They’re history teachers who’ve been assigned physical education because nobody else has. They’re art teachers who may have played a sport in college or taken one class on exercise. Trained coaches are luxuries of the accomplished, only available once an athlete has already demonstrated his or her ability.
That’s why Mann Deshi Champions has started coach the government school coaches. To that extent, A month ago we had put together a training camp for 50 government school coaches in Mhaswad, India. For four days, coaches from Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur did scientifically-grounded workout practices, including proper warm-up and cool-down exercises. They’ll discovered the theoretical and practical basics of different sports, and how to best teach them to children.
Moreover, the coaches practiced the social skills necessary to create a supportive and nurturing environment for primary-school children, especially girls- creating room for them to fail and succeed in ways they never thought possible, ways that will help them grow and alter their futures for the better. The camp was conducted in partnership with the Sprinters club Mumbai. At the end of the four days coaching seestion we conducted a village level wrestling competition.
After the camp, we realized we should start a Travel Coach program. Where 10 of Mann Deshi’s travel coach will travel to different schools to coach the government school coaches as well the children with unified curriculum. Every coach will spend at least 4 month in each school. Travel coach program is going to start from the Jan 2019.
