We are excited to share that the first phase of the Maidan Cup has been successfully implemented! This innovative initiative is creating 50 vibrant playgrounds across tribal villages in the Bastar region, transforming barren land into safe, inclusive spaces for children to play, train, and dream.
The Maidan Cup introduces nine sporting disciplines, including football, volleyball, kho-kho, long jump, hurdles, shot put, discus throw, slackline, and a jungle gym with Olympic-style elements like pyramid logs, climbing ladders, tyre runs, skateboarding, and more. For most children, this marks their first experience of organized sports and competitions.
In India, over 70% of schools lack playgrounds, and most teachers are not trained in sports. In Dantewada, an area deeply affected by Naxal conflict, safe play spaces are non-existent. To change this, Mann Deshi trained 100 government school teachers as sports coaches. From this group, 50 schools were selected to build playgrounds, with immense support from the local community.
For the first time in India, hundreds of community members volunteered to build 50 playgrounds, for their own children.
Take Kamlu, a litchi farmer from Dantewada, who couldn’t complete his education due to conflict. Today, he is a proud contributor to this movement, working alongside 200+ volunteers from neighboring villages to give their children a chance at a better future through sport.
