shorten "Habitat & Education Promotion is excited to share the results of our latest interschool soccer program in the rural communities of Kpélé and Agou, Togo.

On July 8 and 9, 2026, students from 26 primary schools came together for an interschool soccer gala designed to promote physical activity, teamwork, discipline, healthy competition, and stronger relationships among schools and communities.

Bringing 22 Schools Together

The participating schools were organized into five geographic groups, allowing neighboring schools to compete locally while creating opportunities for children, teachers, families, and communities to connect through sport.

The objective was never simply to determine which school could win the most matches.

Soccer gives children opportunities to be active, work toward common goals, practice discipline, communicate with teammates, handle both success and disappointment, and build friendships beyond their own schools.

Through this program, we want children to experience sport as a positive environment for health, teamwork, personal growth, inclusion, and community.

Equipment for Every Participating School

To help the impact continue beyond the tournament, Habitat & Education Promotion provided one soccer ball and one set of playing jerseys to each of the 22 participating schools.

This equipment gives schools additional resources for physical education, practice, recreational play, and future soccer activities.

The strongest teams in the competition groups also received cash prizes:

In some groups, awards were limited to the first- and second-place teams. Teachers who served as referees and members of the organizing teams also received modest support for their contribution.

Safety and Community Participation

Teachers worked alongside Habitat & Education Promotion representatives to organize activities on the different playing fields.

The Red Cross was also present at the tournament locations to provide assistance when needed, helping us create a safer environment for participating children.

The program brought together students, teachers, referees, volunteers, local leaders, and community members around a shared celebration of children and sport.

Results of the Soccer Gala

The program achieved several important results:

  • 26 primary schools participated
  • 6 competition groups were organized
  • Every participating school received soccer equipment
  • Winning teams received recognition and prizes
  • Teachers and volunteers supported tournament operations
  • Red Cross personnel supported event safety
  • Children practiced teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition
  • Relationships between schools and communities were strengthened

Building Something That Lasts

For Habitat & Education Promotion, this program is about more than a two-day tournament.

We want rural schools to have the resources and community support necessary to give children consistent opportunities to play, move, learn, and belong.

The enthusiasm we witnessed from students, teachers, families, and communities confirms the importance of continuing to expand access to organized sports in rural schools.

We are deeply grateful to our GlobalGiving donors and supporters. Your generosity helps provide equipment, organize activities, support schools, and create opportunities for children who might otherwise have very limited access to organized sport.

Together, we are helping children become healthier, more confident, collaborative, and connected to their communities.

Thank you for helping us keep children playing and growing.

With gratitude,
Habitat & Education Promotion
