Thank you for your continued support of St Mungo's. With your help, we are furthering our ambition to end homelessness, for good. We are pleased to share an update about St Mungo's latest achievements and how we will be supporting people experiencing homelessness this Spring.
In the past quarter, across all our client facing services:
These achievements would not have been possible without your support, thank you.
International Women’s Day
Every night, women experiencing homelessness make the impossible choice. The danger of a doorway or the danger of physical and sexual violence in their relationship.
Women rough sleeping try to keep themselves safe by staying hidden. But hiding from harm means they are also hidden from help. The true extent of the women who need our support is much greater than we know. That’s why St Mungo’s are part of the critical 11% of service providers in the UK giving specialised support for women experiencing homelessness. We provide tailored support for women and help them recover from homelessness for good.
St Mungo’s understands the unique needs of women who have experienced homelessness, and with specialised women only projects across the UK, we have the tools and resources to help. We’re here for women experiencing homelessness, and your organisation can be too.
Tracy's story
After the birth of her son, Tracy found herself struggling with her mental health. Unable to get the support she needed, she fell into an abusive relationship, and soon found herself homeless for 18 years.
"I either slept under the bridge to keep dry or would sneak into electrical cupboards for warmth. The slightest noise and I was up in a flash to see who or what was there."
"If its wet, you're soaked to the bone, you can't stop shaking and sleeping in cold damp clothes makes you ill."
This #InternationalWomensDay we help women like Tracy get the support they need to recover from homelessness and rebuild their lives.
Support St Mungo's and help a woman recover from homelessness for good.
Latest rough sleeping statistics
New data was released today in January 2024 by the Combined Homelessness and Information Network (CHAIN) which covers October to December 2023. In total, 4389 people were recorded as rough sleeping in London between October-December 2023, this is an increase of 23% on the same period last year. Of these people:
Emma Haddad, St Mungo’s Chief Executive, said:
“Figures evidencing the picture of homelessness in our capital have once again seen a really worrying rise. This is not a surprise – our outreach teams across London have been inundated with new people arriving onto the streets. The shortage of affordable and appropriate housing is leaving far too many people vulnerable. We urge the Government to take measures that would halt the escalating numbers of people who are sleeping rough and having to spend their nights in the cold.”
Thank you!
We hope you are proud of your hard work to help us achieve our ambition – that no one should ever have to sleep rough and that everyone should be able to realise their potential. St Mungo's vital services could not be run without your continued support and generosity. Thank you for helping us to end homelessness and rebuild lives.
