Hello donors, it is already fall! I am excited to report your donations played a large part in having a successful summer programme. We thank you for your continued support, it really means a great deal to us.
This year's annual programme "Growing Young SVG Artists" was offered in Georgetown, Tourama and Spring Village. The emphasis was acknowledging the fact that climate change is here and the need to teach ways of coping. Our art activities centered on teaching children to repair and mend their clothes and how to enrich the soil by making compost from scraps around the home. Children were taught how to sew on a button, to hem and mend, using the Japanese method boro stitching. A magic carpet was woven on a cardboard loom, kindness rocks were painted and personal logos were createad.
In addition to offering the annual "Growing Young SVG Artists" programme in rural areas, Youlou Arts collaborated with the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority, with their programme titled "Conservation Guardians", held the last week of July. The programme was held at the curator's house in the famous Botanical Garden. The activities focused on teaching the youth how to take care of our beloved Botanical Gardens. A tour was given of the Calvin Nicholls' Wildlife Complex, which is in the garden. There the children were able to see the national bird, the St. Vincent parrot - Amazona guildingii in cages. Art activities centered on making paste papers which were used to collage their own parrot. The children created a make believe radio program in which they discussed the origins of the Botanical Garden, which is celebrating its two hundred and sixty anniversary this year.
The focus at this programme was to get the youth to learn about the history, and plants to enable them to be the future caretakers of the Botantical Gardens.
Donors we are counting on you to keep giving us your support.
