Exciting times are ahead! The 2014 annual visual arts program sponsored by Youlou Arts Foundation is about to start. Preparations are almost complete. 3 barrels were shipped to St. Vincent during the month of May, loaded with books and art supplies for the program.
The program dates have been finalized. The week long Teacher's Training Workshop, will kick off the program. This starts Monday July 14 at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School.
The children's visual arts program starts July 21 and ends August 8th.
Sherika Sayers, the "visiting artist" is in the midst of designing suitable projects for this year's program. She will be teaching sculpture, using clay and paper mache. Embroidery and needlework projects using the applique technique will be used to make flags and quilts/banners. All projects will center around celebrating the garden theme. The children will read poems written by Gwendolyn Brooks and other poets. Field trips are planned and guest speakers
The program is bent on encouraging children to be self-confident, creative and curious.
