Millions of under-served children in China lack access to computers at home and attend schools without digital literacy classes. Stepping Stones equips over 2,000 disadvantaged students each year with essential 21st-century and STEM skills - including Microsoft Office, online research and safety, coding (Scratch, C++, Java), embedded systems, and AI - preparing them to meet the challenges of an increasingly digital world.
Digital skills are very limited for many rural, migrant and other disadvantaged children in China. Many of them have no computers in their homes or schools, and even where there are computers in schools, there is a shortage of computer teachers. While digital skills have been essential for success in the last two decades, they have acquired an even greater significance in recent years as they have become indispensable to most of our daily activities.
This project supports students in two aspects through weekly offline or online classes. First, we help them identify potential risks of being online, such as fraud, theft of personal information, illegal activities and sexual exploitation. Second, we equip children with the knowledge to reach their full potential. Through this project, students will learn essential 21st-century skills, focusing on digital literacy learning.
We believe that all children should have access to quality learning. Without self-awareness, social awareness, and digital skills, children will struggle to reach their full potential and to find and secure decent work. This project equips students with a wide array of skills - such as Microsoft Office, coding, programming, online safety, online searching, AI, and social-emotional skills - so that they are better prepared to meet the challenges of a tech-focused society.

The Government of People’s Republic of China has implemented new regulations for foreign NGOs operating in China. GlobalGiving must receive Government approval before we can disburse funds to organizations registered in Mainland China. This means that the disbursement of your donation to this project may be slightly delayed while we obtain the appropriate approval.
