Energy breathes life into communities

Minigrids that STGI supports are delivering real impact and commercial levels of power - recently a truck carrying steel poles for a grid extension project broke down near Gbowele village, built and operated by OnePower in Benin.  A local welder took on the challenge and was able to complete necessary repairs thanks to reliable electricity from the local solar minigrid. I really like how this situation illustrates how decentralized energy solutions are empowering rural communities - and even act as support of broader infrastructure development in the region.

The impact of OnePower's solar minigrids extends far beyond emergency roadside assistance. Electrification brings real economic growth to communities enabling new businesses like retail shops and hair salons, woodworking and food processing. Reliable electricity means refrigeration for food conservation, powered agricultural processing equipment, illuminated homes and streets at night, and when you visit you find the tranquility of rural life alongside the bustle of new economic opportunities.  Someday minigrids may be connect to the national grid, but they don't need to sweat the wait - the communities already enjoy the benefits of clean, affordable, and reliable electricity today.
