New diversity & inclusion workshop series in Kyoto

Dear supporters,

Since our last update, we have begun a new diversity and inclusion workshop series in Kyoto. Sponsored by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, the workshops aim for students to appreciate and respect those who have different backgrounds, unique interests and cultures. We think it is crucial to develop sensitivity and acceptance to those who are racially or ethnically diverse.

Students of all nationalities between elementary school grades 1-6 are welcome to attend,  and the workshops are held in a fun, English-speaking environment.

As of August 2022, we have successfully held three workshops:

  1. Everyone is different - Introduce yourself! Listen to your peers self introductions, and learn how to address them using appropriate pronouns.
  2. How to be an ally? - Learn how to support LGBTQIA+ peers, and raise our voices when we see discrimination.
  3. Respecting other cultures! - Let’s learn about events similar to Japan’s obon period, and appreciate other cultures’ unique traditions.

We plan to hold more workshops in the near future! You can keep up to date on any future workshops on our designated page.

In the mean time, please follow us on Instagram for more updates - @guardian_japan.

Thank you as always for your support!
