Dear supporters,
In October, we brought our first diversity and inclusion workshop to Hirakata City in Osaka Prefecture. We addressed the familiar theme of "Respecting other cultures" (previously a success in our Kumamoto and Kyoto workshops) and due to the time of year, focused on Halloween and similar celebrations around the world.
Despite being our youngest participants yet, the children were able to appreciate the unique traditions and cultures, and engaged in discussions that were full of curiosity. It was also great to see parents/guardians in attendance actively supporting the children - by participating alongside them, they assisted in creating an environment where the children felt comfortable to respectfully raising questions.
This is a perfect example of how parents and guardians can encourage these dialogues, and I hope this will enable young participants to continue to express interest in learning about other cultures in their daily lives.
Moving forward, we are considering ways in which we can expand these workshops to a wider audience (both through location and designing content for older children). We are looking forward to increasing our outreach next year, and as always, we appreciate your continued support.
Wishing you the happiest of holidays, and a healthy 2024!
