At 28 years old, *Grace* is a resilient young mother determined to give her child the healthiest start in life despite living with HIV.
When Grace discovered she was pregnant, fear and uncertainty overwhelmed her. She worried about her own health and, most of all, the possibility of transmitting HIV to her unborn baby. Like many women in her situation, she faced stigma, anxiety, and countless unanswered questions.
Everything changed when she enrolled in the Elimination of Mother-To-Child Transmission (EMTCT) program at Alive Medical Services.
From her very first visit, Grace received comprehensive care and support. She was initiated and closely monitored on antiretroviral therapy (ART), attended regular antenatal appointments, and received counseling that empowered her with knowledge about safe motherhood and infant care.
“The health workers treated me with respect and gave me hope,” Grace shares. “They assured me that my baby could be born HIV-free if I followed the guidance.”
Grace adhered diligently to her treatment and clinic visits throughout her pregnancy. When she delivered a healthy baby boy, she felt a renewed sense of purpose and joy. Immediately after birth, her baby was enrolled in the EMTCT program and started on preventive care.
Now, at four months old, her baby is growing well and has tested HIV-negative at the recommended milestones so far bringing immense relief and happiness to Grace.
Grace continues to exclusively breastfeed while adhering strictly to medical guidance and attending follow-up appointments for both herself and her child. With ongoing support from Alive Medical Services, she remains committed to ensuring her baby stays HIV-free.
“Today, I am not just living I am hopeful,” she says with a smile. “Alive Medical Services gave me the strength to protect my child and take care of myself.”
Grace’s journey is a powerful reminder that with the right care, information, and support, mothers living with HIV can raise healthy, HIV-free children. Her story reflects the life-changing impact of the EMTCT program and the critical role of accessible, compassionate healthcare.
Thanks to platforms like GlobalGiving, Alive Medical Services is one of the leading health facilities that has supported the EMTCT program because of the support rendered. Women living with HIV have become more confident to create HIV free babies.
