In Nigeria, about 1.6 million people are victims of human trafficking, with adolescent girls at high risk of exploitation. Many are forced into domestic servitude or transactional sex to survive. This project will create a safe centre where underaged girls receive adult education, marketable skills, and health guidance. With targeted training in trades, critical thinking, and self-awareness, the girls will gain safer paths to financial independence and a chance for a secure future.
Thousands of adolescent girls in Nigeria are trafficked each year, often forced to work as housemaids or exchange sex for survival. Poverty, low literacy, and lack of opportunities leave them with limited choices. Many of these girls drop out of school, lack family support, and face abuse. Without access to education or safe employment, they remain vulnerable to repeated cycles of exploitation and trafficking, trapping them in a cycle of poverty and harm.
The centre will provide a safe space where girls receive adult education, vocational training, and health services. Skills such as tailoring, catering, and computing will help them gain safer means of income. Counseling and life skills classes will build self-awareness and decision-making capacity. By equipping them with practical knowledge and tools, the project will reduce reliance on exploitative survival methods and open opportunities for dignified work.
Over time, girls who pass through this program will be less vulnerable to traffickers, as they will have education, skills, and confidence to support themselves. Many will start small businesses or secure employment, breaking the cycle of poverty. The project will also encourage community awareness, helping to reduce the acceptance of child trafficking practices. By creating role models, it will inspire other vulnerable girls to pursue safer paths.
