Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan organizes awareness programs for the prevention of the violence against women at times. Under such an awareness proram a workshop was held where one of our activists met with Durga, one of the victims of such violent activities. Durga told her story to one of our women activist which is described here in her words.

My name is Durga and I'm 32 years old. Due to the pathetic financial conditions of my family I remained deprived of getting education and at an early age I got married which finished my personal life. Now, It's been 8 years since I got married and my husband is a daily wage labour who brings a part of his wages to home and consumes liquor with the remaining part of the wages. That makes us to face financial problems everytime. We have the responsibility to feed the family along with the education of two children which is the major concern for us. But, my husband keeps consuming liquor everyday and abuses me also he has fight with the neighbours and I have got completely disappointed from all this. I have a boy and a girl who have adverse effect of all such activities. Being disappointed from the habit of consumin liquor of my husband I have started living separate from him. He forcefully keeps both the children with him.

One day, I participated in a workshop held by Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan with the support of GlobalGiving Foundation where I cam to know about my legal rights. I talked to the representatives of the organization and they advised me legally. And then, with the support of Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan, I take legal actions against my husband and got divorced from him and now both the children live with me. But, then I had not any source of earning, but still I had the skill of stiching. Therefore, the organization gave me a sewing machine to have a livelihood. And now, the organization also gets me stitiching work also helps me in marketing and promotional activities. Now I have got confidence in myself which makes me able to feed my family and provide better education to the children. I am greatly thankful to Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan, GlobalGiving Foundation and the donors from the bottom of my heart for giving me a new life.
