I'm writing to give you the exact update from Mali: There are currently no cases of Ebola, although hundreds of contacts are being traced and monitored.
Despite this good news, it is misleading to think that the epidemic is under control. Mali's border with Guinea remains open, which led to the entry of the first two cases and subsequent transmissions in a Bamako health center. Malians remain at great risk.
The beauty of working on Ebola prevention is that we will be strengthening the West African health care system at the same time. By setting up handwashing stations in neighborhood gathering places, not only will we be educating people about Ebola, but we will be curbing the spread of many other infections and infectious diseases at the same time. This is an opportunity to vastly improve people's lives as well as their health.
In addition to distributing our Ebola cloth, we plan to reinforce handwashing and fever scanning initiatives.
Thank you for your continued support! Please think of us during the giving season!
