Dear donor and friend. Once upon a time, there was a noble Pitbull mix, who for unknown reasons lived for a long while on a parking lot.  He was well-known there, educated, decent and caring. The employees and frequent clients loved his kindness, his bright smile and politeness. Although there was a dog feeder full of kibble, food became scarce and was never enough for our handsome lord Sunshine, because he was not the only inhabitant of that place. Then, an accident changed his life. Jerito, as we named him, was hit by a truck, that destroyed completely his hind leg. The pain was unbearable, and his smile faded. Jerito urgently needed painkillers, medical attention, surgery. One person took responsibility and brought him to an orthopedic vet clinic, where the leg had to be amputated. And again, even at the hospital, Jerito continued to conquer the hearts of the staff, with his unique smile and his distinguished manners. Obviously we could not send him back to the parking lot, so he joined us in the shelter, and we’ve never met such a happy and grateful sunshine before. Jerito enjoys every minute of his new life, he loves the soups, his mattress, the sun, his fellow buddies, the visits, and when it comes to his favourite activity, being groomed and massaged, he feels like an important member of royalty.

Dear donor and friend, here we are again, with a brandnew rescue story on board. The news that reached us were each time more disturbing, the photos were heartbreaking. “A dog wandering aimlessly through the streets, at the end of his strength”, “senior dog seen motionless on the pavement, in the pouring rain”, “agonizing dog passed the whole night lying on the street”. The alarm bells were ringing!! Typically, it was a late Friday afternoon and everyone, including every single vet, in a weekend mood. The one person living next to the indicated place, let the poor dog rest in her garage for a night. But the next morning, the vet was already on her way, the mysterious dog was gone, inexplicably. Two weeks later, the ghost dog reappeared, far from the village center, lying in a meadow. She turned out to be a sweet old lady, totally exhausted from wandering around, and it seemed as if she wanted to sleep forever. Her matted fur was full of fleas, so she had to be completely sheared in order to get her some relief. The spa experience lasted several hours, but like magic, we had a new dog before our eyes!! Nonna only wanted to eat her soup and sleep, and as the exams went well, we gave her the space to process her past traumas, while sleeping. Slowly she came out of her shell and is now an integral part of our safe haven for retired seniors. She still loves resting a lot, but she became more active, more interested in her surroundings, wags her tail, even smiles.
