Dear donor and friend, we received an emergency call, reporting an abandoned and sick dog, lying on the side of a rural road. We approached the indicated place, and there he was, barely conscious at first, due to a high fever, a debilitating cough and hunger. Immediately we offered him water and food, which he devoured. Then we made the necessary call to the local Secretariat of Animal and Environmental Protection, so that they send us a vet. In the meantime, we began to investigate about the dog’s background story. A neighbour told us, that the poor doggie lived nearby, with a family who has two more dogs, but is never home, and when the dog got sick, they simply got rid of their responsibility by ignoring him and leaving him outside, shivering with fever during the cold nights. That said, we contacted the authorities, informing about this case of abandonment, negligence and cruelty, asking for official intervention. They realized a formal apprehension, the dog was diagnosed with severe bronchitis and is still hospitalized, slowly recovering. We called him Benni.
