This year, Iraqi Children Foundation (ICF) is excited to host our 11th annual "In their shoes" 5k to support Iraq's most vulnerable children. On October 15, we will host our in person run/walk in Washington, D.C. at Hains Point, along the beautiful Pomotac river. We are excited to have a variety of Iraqi food vendors and musicians to support this family friendly event. We hope you can join us if you are in the area!
Do you want to run or walk with us, but you can't make it to Washington D.C.? You can still join the run or walk virtually from anywhere in the world! So far we have teams signed up from Australia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Canada, Macau, Iraq, and sign ups from all over the United States! Where will you join us from?
Why does ICF host an annual 5K event?
ICF, along with our Iraqi nonprofit partners, see the growing need of thousands of children who require legal support, educational, nutrition, medical assistance, and psychosocial support. Your support of this event along with your faithful donations provide ongoing financial support for street lawyers who go to court to defend children facing criminal charges. It gives kids access to missing legal IDs that they need to go to school and get government support. It means medical care for a child working at the city dump. It means help from a social worker to finish school after a child is released from prison. It means tutoring for boys and girls who were working - and in some cases, still do -- on the streets. It means defending a girl who has been a victim of sex trafficking from being charged as a criminal rather than the victim she really is.
Ali's Story- Your Support Makes A Difference!
Ali*, an 11 year old child attended the Hope Bus program and was adored by the staff and his fellow classmates. The team of social workers noticed that Ali had suddenly stopped attending classes, so the social workers visited his home to understand why he was no longer attending the hope bus. The social workers learned that Ali's father passed away as a result of a heart attack. Ali, as the eldest son in the family, was expectd to take his father's place and provide finanically. He then started working on the streets selling items to try and make a little money to provide for his family however he could. Together the social workers and the legal team were able to work with Ali's mother to make sure the family would be issued a social welfare salary to provide ongoing assistance. With the additional finanaical support, Ali was able to return to the Hope Bus program and continue his studies amongst his friends.
