After need assessment and identification of the Target beneficiaries, the SRHR (Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights) program was started in the Coochbehar district of West Bengal. 4 Rural Government schools had been identified. After seeking permission from the concerned authorities, SRHR program was started in 3 remote rural Govt. schools of Coochbehar in November 2018. 12 sessions with 150 adolescent girls are being conducted in the 3 rural schools in Coochbehar district by 4 DMT (Dance Movement Therapy) Practitioners. The 4th school to initiate the SRHR program in January 2019, after the girls return from their Christmas break.
School Heads have reported that the SRHR sessions in these schools have motivated the young girls to remain in school, thereby substantially reducing the drop out rates.
Kolkata Sanved has further identified 2 major organisations in the districts of Howrah and Murshidabad in West Bengal for conducting SRHR programs with the adolescent girls. After the initial communication phase, preparations are on and work in Murshidabad will commence in February 2019, post need assessment and identification of the beneficiaries.
