Thank you for your generous donation to the Sudan Emergency Fund. Donations to this GlobalGiving Fund are already making a difference, providing access to healthcare, emergency relief items, and food packages. Your support is reaching Sudanese forcibly displaced to neighboring countries including Chad and South Sudan, as well as those trapped amidst fighting within the country.

Since our last update, donations from the Sudan Emergency Fund have supported four grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this crisis.

Here is what Mastora from Darfur Women Network, INC. wanted you to know about the impact of your donation:

I would like to express my gratitude for the emergency grant. This will support the refugees from Darfur in Chad who were impacted by the devastating war in Sudan. GlobalGiving inspires us and makes our work much easier!

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Relief International (RI) continues to provide essential healthcare at its network of 29 facilities in North Darfur and Blue Nile within Sudan. In neighboring South Sudan, the nonprofit’s mobile medical teams are providing emergency medical services to people crossing the border while working to deploy its teams in Chad to the new refugee camps being set up.
  • International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) is ensuring its in-country Palliative Unit Team has access to internet and other emergency funding, which allows them to provide distant consultations, travel to conduct face-to-face homecare wherever possible, and purchase medical supplies and essential medicines for patients. This is critical as most palliative care treatments - and healthcare overall - practically halted when the war broke out in Sudan.
  • Egyptian Food Bank (EFB) is actively responding to the impact of the conflict in Sudan, and has been since the outset as thousands of Sudanese sought refuge in Egypt. The nonprofit’s primary focus has been on addressing the needs of families who fled the conflict and settled in the southern city of Aswan. More recently, EFB is delivering dry food packs to those families who have established themselves in Egypt, specifically in Aswan and Cairo.
  • Darfur Women Network, INC (DWN) is addressing shelter and hygiene requirements for hundreds of families seeking refuge in Chad. These families are in new settlements displaced from the Toulum refugee camp where many have been living for 10 years since they fled genocide in Darfur. DWN is helping families build waterproof shelters, distributing millet, and providing hygiene items such as soap.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Sudan Emergency Fund powers community-led responses, and it means people like Mastoraget the critical resources they need to help their community remain as safe, healthy and food secure as possible in the middle of a war that is devastating the lives of millions of people. Thank you, we cannot say it enough.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
