Today marks three years since the start of the current civil warin Sudan. As the humanitarian crisis deepens, hope can sometimes feel distant. But then we hear this:

“At this critical moment, flexible funding allows us to respond rapidly and directly to the urgent needs of Sudanese women and girls affected by the war.  We will ensure the funds  are used strategically to bolster frontline response efforts, including protection support, emergency assistance, and strengthening community-based women’s networks navigating the ongoing crisis.” - Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA Network)

The Sudan Emergency Fund recently supported five grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit partners, including SIHA. These organizations are at the forefront of the crisis in Sudan and in neighboring Chad, a country hosting thousands of Sudanese refugees.

Here’s a glimpse into some of the nonprofits these grants will support:

  • Al Khatim Adlan Centre for Enlightenment and Human Development (KACE) is coordinating and funding community-led Emergency Response Rooms in Sudan to ensure Sudanese have access to economic opportunities, food, and healthcare. KACE’s efforts target particularly vulnerable families,  like women-headed homes, who are often under-resourced and overlooked.
  • Doroti Organization for Humanitarian Services is providing food and cash assistance to displaced families in Chad, especially along the border areas in newly established refugee camps. Doroti prioritizes the most vulnerable households, including large Sudanese families, individuals with health conditions, the elderly, and orphaned children.

Thanks to your support, these grants are not only sustaining the vital work of our nonprofit partners—they are part of GlobalGiving and its donor community’s long-term commitment to underfunded relief efforts in Sudan. Through the Funders for Mutual Aid in Sudan initiative, we aim to collectively channel millions of dollars to local and community-based mutual aid groups across the country.

Your support keeps this momentum going and puts resources directly in the hands of local leaders and nonprofits to apply where they are needed most.

Thank you, we could not do it without you.

With immense gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
