I - FINAL TECHNICAL REPORT OF THE PROJECT
INTRODUCTION
The implementation of the activities of the project “Improving access to water for the communities of Lédiyo/Kpalou-Kpalou, Nigbaoudè II and Koumoniadè in the prefecture of Tchaoudjo”, began with the stage of raising awareness of the beneficiary communities on 02 and April 3, 2024. It is implemented by the NGO CAV with the financial support of the COCHRAN Family based in the USA, of Mr Jong Cheng Huang through GlobalGiving.
This report summarizes all activities carried out from April 2 to June 30, 2024.
The following activities were carried out during this period:
- Raising public awareness of the project and setting up drilling sites ;
- Carrying out geophysical studies;
- Drilling of wells;
- Pumping and water analysis
- Construction of drilling superstructures;
- Supply of equipment and installation of mechanical and photovoltaic power systems;
- Technical and provisional acceptance of the works:
- Coordination and monitoring of project activities.
PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES
1. POPULATION AWARENESS ABOUT THE PROJECT AND ESTABLISHMENT OF DRILLING SITES:
Awareness raising took place from April 2 to 3, 2024 in the 3 localities benefiting from the drilling project for the year 2024.
During these awareness sessions, the beneficiaries were equipped with their responsibilities to now take charge of the management and maintenance of the works to be built.
An area of at least a quarter of a hectare was chosen by each community for geophysical studies. This chosen space is that belonging to the entire community or space donated by the community or landowners with proof of ownership of the site.
2. GEOPHYSICAL STUDIES:
The geophysical studies took place in the beneficiary communities from April 4 to 6, 2024
These studies revealed the existence of abundant water tables between 70 and 120 meters deep.
3. DRILLINGS, DRILLING DEVELOPMENT AND EQUIPMENT
Drilling and development work was successfully carried out in the 3 project sites from April 7 to 9, 2024.
4. PUMPING AND PHYSICO-CHEMICAL AND MICROBIOLOGICAL ANALYZES OF WATER FROM DRILLS:
Pumping of the boreholes was carried out two (2) weeks after the drilling stage. It took place from April 22 to 23, 2024 and consisted of:
ü Measure the borehole flow rate;
ü Determine the variation in its production at different flow rates;
ü Quantify aquifer characteristics, including permeability coefficient and water storage capacity.
At the end of the pumping, water samples were taken for physicochemical and microbiological analyzes in the laboratory at the Regional Directorate of Hygiene and Sanitation of Sokodé. The analyzes were carried out from April 22 to 27, 2024.
The results of the analyzes were considered satisfactory and fully met the standards of the WHO (World Health Organization).
5. CONSTRUCTION OF DRILLING SUPERSTRUCTURES:
Following the conclusive results of the physicochemical and microbiological analyses, the construction phase of the superstructures in the three villages has started.
Nine (9) days after the manufacture of the bricks in the localities of Nigbaoudè and Lédiyo / Kpalou-Kpalou, the construction work of the superstructure (marble, fence, anti-quagmire, hedgehog slab, channel, decanter and soakaway) was completed. were carried out from May 11 to 29, 2024.
The construction of the water tower which will support the polytank and the solar plates for the Koumoniadè photovoltaic drilling was carried out from May 11 to 9, 2024. Several actors (scrap dealers, carpenters, masons, painter and welder) succeeded one another for the success of this work carried out according to the rules of the art.
6. SUPPLY OF EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLATION OF MECHANICAL AND PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER SYSTEMS
The installation of human-powered pumps in the two localities took place on June 1, 2024 in the morning in Nigbaoudè and in the afternoon in Lédiyo / Kpalou-Kpalou.
These 2 installed pumps are INDIA brand II type. They are the most recommended by the Regional Hydraulic Directorate and consist of a head, a spillway, a frame, 10 stainless steel pipes of 3 meters each, 10 stainless steel rods of 3 meters each and a stainless steel cylinder.
In Koumoniadè, the solar pump was installed from June 20 to 23, 2024 with the following characteristics: Model: 4PSS4 / 100 / 72 / 1000, Power: 1000W, flow rate: 4 m 3 /H, Depth: 100 m connected to the plates Mono KS model, Power: 272 W.
7. TECHNICAL AND PROVISIONAL RECEPTION OF THE WORKS:
The technical and provisional acceptance of the works took place on June 27 and 28, 2024 in the presence of local authorities, leaders of peasant organizations and village development committees and Water Committees. The companies implementing the project, in particular GOOD LUCK and LASSISSI, respectively the drilling company, the construction company and the company specializing in solar energy, also took part in the reception ceremonies in the different localities benefiting from the project.
In turn, the project team, hydraulic technicians and companies spoke to provide advice to the population for the proper use and management of the works carried out. Populations through local authorities and Water committees have expressed their thanks to the COCHRAN Family for its financial contribution.
For the women responsible for Lédiyo /Kpalou-Kpalou, “we are very happy, especially we women of Lédiyo /Kpalou-Kpalou for this jewel that we are celebrating today. We have suffered from a lack of water in this village for thousands of years. Before, to get water, you have to walk up to 4 kilometers to go to the “Kédég'na” river that you crossed to come here before finding water. It is God Almighty who will reward this Donor.
The President of the Village Development Committee of Nigbaoudè believes that “water is life and that God has prepared paradise for anyone who gives water to drink to a community in need. We give thanks to the Almighty for this gem. May the Donor be blessed, as well as his family.
For the head of women in the Darsalam district of Nigbaoudè II, he wished “that God bless you, as well as the Donor for this gift. Here in the neighborhood, we have suffered from lack of water since we settled in this village, especially during the dry season when the water in our wells practically dries up. Other neighborhoods continue to suffer. This is why we hope that God will lend you a hand to help them too.”
As for the village chief of Koumoniadè, “there is no health center without drinking water. This is why it was necessary to have a water source before the health center to be built could start. Before the request for this drilling was made, we were obliged to drill a well which allowed the construction of the health center to begin. This drilling therefore came at the right time to allow us not only to complete its construction, but also and above all to supply the health center to be built. All our gratitude to the Cochran Family for their financial support and to the NGO CAV for its technical support”
8. COORDINATION AND MONITORING OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES.
Follow-ups were carried out by the project team. This team is made up of the Coordinator, the Accountant and the Cashier of the NGO. Monitoring tours of the drilling works were organized during the geophysical studies, the drilling works, water pumping, the construction of superstructures and the supply of equipment and the installation of mechanical power systems and photovoltaic
Telephone, email and Whatsapp contacts were exchanged between the project team, the company and the project technical monitoring manager.
