In Mexico, 5,000 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed each year, being the leading cause of death by disease in children between 5 and 14 years old.
Of those cases diagnosed throughout the country, only 50% can save their lives; this is because there is a late diagnosis and in many cases the economic situation of these families is a limitation since they must move from their communities to the closest city where there is a public hospital that can attend to them.
In 32 years of uninterrupted work, Casa de la Amistad has committed itself to increase the survival rate and giving low-income children and young people with cancer a chance to live, complementing their cancer treatment with medications, special tests, bone marrow transplants, prosthesis, endoprosthesis and necessary supplies for their treatment with no cost to their families.
Thanks to the successful July Bonus Day campaign, with the help of our donors and GlobalGiving, we have supported 13 children and young people from different states, covering special studies that allow evaluating their response to the oncological treatment and ensure that it is the appropriate protocol for their diagnosis.
