Dear supporters,
We have already shared stories from two of the Summer START Academies that took place in July and August 2023, and now we would like to take you to a small village in the Lovech region - Brestnitsa.
The Summer START Academy in Brestnitsa took place from July 3rd to 21st, involving 35 students aged 8 to 13. The academy aimed to address reading, writing, and mathematics gaps, focusing on self-regulated learning skills. Symbolized by the unsinkable "Plamachko," the children embarked on a journey into the world of knowledge. As a final project, they created a tourist brochure.
The special guest lecturers helped the students “transport” to Turkey, Greece, and Russia by cooking traditional dishes from these countries—Turkish baklava, Greek tzatziki salad, and Russian salad. These activities stirred strong emotions and excitement among the students.
The students visited a Turkish delight workshop in Brestnitsa village, experiencing the art of making lokum. Another excursion included visits to Prohodna Cave and Zlaten Park in Lukovit city. At the official closing ceremony, the young travelers presented their brochures and treated guests to traditional Turkish, Greek, and Russian cuisine and drinks.
The Summer Start Academy provided an immersive educational experience during which students could improve their academic skills and explore cultures and cuisines from different countries.
