On behalf of the local communities affected by typhoon Odette in Negros Islands, I wish to extend my gratitude to GlobalGiving donors for your generosity.
With your support, we were able to purchase construction materials to help rebuild the silkworm rearing houses of our sericulture farmers. Most of our farmers live in mountainous areas with poor road access, and further worsened by the typhoon. Under such condition and the bulk of materials that they need to carry with them, our staff struggled in distributing the rebuilding materials.
In spite of this, the thought that the sericulture farmers could raise new batch of silkworms, and later on could gain income through their support, motivated the staff. This year, it rained twice in March, which is unusual, and the mulberry trees (leaves are used to feed silkworms) are growing at a high speed. With this, we are expecting to have good cocoon harvests.
Meanwhile, the buildings of OISCA Bago Training Center where we often conduct sericulture related trainings are gradually being repaired.
We will continue providing support, in any form to our sericulture farmers. We intend to share with you updates of our activities. We look forward to your continued support.
