Children with thalassemia in Lebanon have always required uninterrupted, lifelong blood transfusions and medical follow up to survive. Even before the last war broke out, the country's fragile healthcare system has made this medical routine extremely difficult for many children and their families. Unfortunately, many of Karma's patients live in areas under bombardment. Displacement and destroyed infrastructure mean that regular hospital appointments are missed, blood supplies are dangerously depleted, and chelation medications are simply out of reach for households that have lost income, homes, or both. Another issue is the psychological toll: children uprooted from their routines, parents unable to protect them from the threat of war and disease. Thalassemia does not pause for conflict. Without consistent treatment, complications accelerate quietly.
Therefore, the Karma team has currently partnered with two organisations to ensure that 44 vulnerable children with thalassemia in Lebanon can receive their necessary medical treatment (blood transfusions and follow up) for a period of three months. We hope we will be able to secure funds beyond this period to continue supporting the children and their families.
If you can help, now is the time. A donation of any size brings us closer to securing treatment beyond these three months and making sure the children receive their treatment on time and with dignity.
Please consider donating to help us extend this programme and share this appeal with anyone who might be moved to help. Every contribution, and every person who passes this on, matters.
