GDF's Conservation Justice Programme offers tailored skills development, leadership growth & network-building for 50+ Global South grassroots conservation changemakers & organisations. Their work strengthens local livelihoods, resolves conflicts & restores ecosystems, sowing hope for communities, ecosystems and our collective future. By providing them with small grants, connecting them to donors & building capacity, we support them to overcome the greatest obstacle they face: accessing funds.
Conservation funding flows are deeply inequitable: only 5% of international funds reach Global South grassroots organisations. This will dramatically reduce as Global North aid dries up. These organisations are at the leading edge of tackling environmental collapse, biodiversity loss, and community marginalisation. Yet, they face severe challenges-scarcity of funding and limited access to donors and support networks. They urgently need resources and capacity building to continue their work.
GDF offers USD 5000 small grants to grassroots conservation leaders, helping them launch projects, grow their organisations and establish institutional sustainability. Each grant includes one-on-one mentoring and group training to help changemakers strengthen project management and fundraising capacities. We offer support in monitoring and evaluation, communications and finance management and help them develop strong proposals to secure long-term funding and expand their impact.
GDF sustains grassroots changemakers, equipping them with skills and resources to drive conservation justice. In a sector rife with burnout, where stakes and emergencies routinely increase, GDF boosts individual and organisational resilience, ensuring access to a supportive community, transformational learning, sustained funding and amplification of their achievements. We help changemakers expand their ability to protect environments, support communities, and mentor future conservation leaders.
