Dear Patron Namaste!
A Warm Greeting from RSKS India.......
The state of Rajasthan in India is home to a significant population of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and children with disabilities (CWDs), residing primarily in rural areas. Despite the existence of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, many individuals and their families lack awareness and understanding of the rights and entitlements granted to them by the legislation. This knowledge gap often leads to limited access to essential services, exclusion, and discrimination faced by PWDs and CWDs in their daily lives.
Recognizing the critical need for raising awareness about the RPwD Act, Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS) organized a two-day RPwD Act Awareness Workshop across 16 different villages. The workshop aimed to educate and empower approximately 350 individuals, including PWDs, CWDs, their parents, and other rural community members. RSKS India's team members conducted the workshop, utilizing various engaging tools such as flipcharts and story-telling sessions to facilitate a better understanding of the RPwD Act among the participants. The workshop provided comprehensive information about the provisions and benefits offered by the RPwD Act. Key topics covered included accessibility, non-discrimination, education, employment, social security, and the establishment of State Disability Rights Authority.
The RPwD Act Awareness Workshop organized by RSKS India had a significant positive impact on the participants and the communities involved. The event successfully equipped individuals with knowledge about their rights, entitlements, and the avenues available to them for redressal. By empowering PWDs, CWDs, and their families, the workshop aimed to enhance their social inclusion, access to services, and overall well-being. The impact of the workshop extended beyond immediate awareness creation. The participants expressed their gratitude to RSKS India for conducting such a valuable program in their villages. The newfound knowledge and understanding of the RPwD Act are expected to enable individuals to advocate for their rights and challenge discrimination within their communities and institutions. This dissemination of information will lead to a positive change in societal attitudes towards PWDs and CWDs, fostering a more inclusive environment that respects their rights and provides equal opportunities for all.
