Dear Friends,
In Summer and Fall of 2024, Asia America Initiative's Nursing Scholars set a record of near perfection in the percentage of recent graduates who successfully passed the difficult exams to obtain their professional licenses! These students are from five difference colleges in Jolo, Zamboanga, Davao and Manila, Philippines that AAI supports. Nursing school graduates are now being hired in hospitals around the developed world, as well as in their home communities.
The nursing students we assist are especially important as they come from impoverished communities where most residents live well below the poverty line. These areas are suffering serious shortages of medical professionals. For example, in the islands of Sulu province, 19 districts and 125 Islands are subdivided into 410 barangays [villages] with a population of close to 1 million people. There are fewer than 16 total medical doctors for this entire area. In these communities, Nurses are the basic infrastructure of public health.
We support female nursing students with their basic educational needs, classroom materials, graduation fees, and the cost of licensing exams. We also provide scholarship, library resources, and equipment for pharmacists, midwives and psychological counselors.
These young women demonstrate the potential for success of Muslim women around the world. As health care providers, the nurses are providing vital services to all community members and expanding the employment base in one of the most economically deprived areas of the world.
If you would like to add to your donation and make a difference to nursing students for the 2025 Spring Semester, please click through the project report. With your help, we can continue to support young women to become nurses who are vital for a community's survival.
