Caring for the whole child...includes the fun!

By Tracey Peppler | Project Leader

Very happy, colourful little children
Very happy, colourful little children

Rays of Hope aims to support children and their families, caring for the "whole child" - physically, emotionally, spiritually, educationally and spiritually. With this in mind, our interventions are grouped into three focus areas - learning & development, psychosocial support and family care. Whether the child attends our early learning centre every day, Monday to Friday, or only comes to our programmes on the weekend, the goal is to intervene in multiple ways to move the child from vulnerability towards independence.

With this in mind, we recently held a Spring Day Colour Run, which saw our littlest children starting off clean and neat, and ending up covered in paint powder but with the biggest smiles on their little faces. By just allowing our children to be children, and have fun, we are enabling such an important part of growing up. Too often in places like Alexandra, children are given responsibilties at a very early age.

With your support through GlobalGiving, Rays of Hope is able to provide our little children with a solid educational foundation, combined with fun activities, outings to broaden their worldview and healthy meals every day. The next planned outing is to take these little ones to the zoo. While everyone has their differing opinions about whether the zoo is a good or a bad place, at the end of the day, it will serve the purpose of showing our children how truly majestic a giraffe is, and how huge an elephant is. No picture book or even video will get the message across as well as seeing them for real. Who knows - it might even lead to one of these children wanting to move into a conservation career?

We would love you to continue your support in the future as times are tough, and your currency makes a big difference when converted into South African Rands. We have Little x Little coming up next week, so if you can make a special once-off donation, it would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you so much for your partnership!

All the best,
Tracey
