Every year we gather in Jerusalem to celebrate Interfaith Encounter Day, with members of our encounter groups, partners and supporters. This year we could not gather physically due to Covid-19, so we gathered online on November 12, 2020, with friends from around the world.
We were fortunate to be able to host our Special Guest: Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Beliefs and Former Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Shaheed remained after the official closing of the event for a conversation with many of the participants.
We started the event by dividing participants into small breakout rooms of interfaith conversation, facilitated by some of our coordinators. They provided short quotes from the Torah, Koran and the New Testament related to connecting with the other, followed by some general questions related to participants` personal experiences in a multicultural world.
After we were back in the main room, Dr. Shaheed gave a short talk about the importance of interfaith work in our current context. He also answered questions from participants and we were very thankful to hear from him on such important topics.
Below you can watch the video of the event (not including the breakout rooms).
