Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have already supported the Support Alzheimer's Care for Rural Elderly Women project. Your kindness shows concern for elderly women who are often forgotten. However, the donations received so far are not sufficient to begin full implementation. Additional support is required to reach those in need.
In many rural communities, elderly women living with Alzheimer’s disease receive little or no structured care. Memory loss and confusion are sometimes misunderstood as spiritual problems or mental instability. Because of this misunderstanding, some women face stigma, neglect, or isolation. Many lack proper meals, hygiene support, and consistent supervision.
Family members are rarely trained to manage memory-related conditions. Without guidance, caregivers struggle to handle behavioral changes, medication routines, and daily care needs. This leaves elderly women vulnerable to poor living conditions and preventable health decline.
This project will provide structured home-based care for 1,520 elderly women in rural villages. Local volunteers will be trained to conduct regular visits, assist with daily hygiene, support medication use, and provide companionship. Food supplies and essential care items will also be distributed to improve daily living conditions. In addition, family caregivers will receive simple training to help them understand Alzheimer’s and respond appropriately to symptoms.
Establishing community-level care can reduce neglect and improve safety for elderly women living with memory loss. With trained volunteers and informed families, women can remain in their homes with greater comfort and dignity.
Although we are grateful for the support already received, more funding is needed before training and home visits can begin. We kindly invite additional donors to help provide structured care and protection for vulnerable elderly women.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
