Camp Imani Summer 2023 Update

As Camp Imani 2023 comes to a close we write to update you on all wonderful activities that have taken place! With your assistance countless children have benefitted over the years. We are glad you could join us!

Summer programming for inner-city children is very, very important. During this period when most children out of school,  parents still need to work to make a living. While affluent parents can afford to pay upwards of $500 per week for camp activities, the low-income are not so lucky. Without programs such as ours there would be a huge gap in community services during summer benefiting low-income young people and their families.

Children in our program range from kindergarten to fifth grade and we work to keep them positively engaged with holistic activities to assist with their academic, emotional, social and physical wellbeing and development.

During the summer our programs are more fun based than academic but they all possess  social and emotional development components such as discipline, communication skills, solving issues in civil manner, etc.  We have found that engaging the children in fun makes it easier to get through to them on other levels and we are doing our best at this in order to assist in the development of the leaders of tommorow.

So far this summer the children have participated in:

  • double-dutch classes
  • Bio-Bus (mobile science laboratory to get young people involved in STEM)
  • archery
  • arts & crafts
  • sewing
  • steel pan drumming
  • field days and field trips (Coney Island, Chucky Cheese, BBQs, bouncy house, etc.)
  • and much more!

We are grateful you joined us in providing this service and thank you on behalf of our staff, communities and participants. If you were unable to assist this summer there is always the school year program and next summer. It's never too late!

Remember-while funding and donations are a neccesary part of our ability to continue to provide this service, we also welcome materials donations, volunteer support, networking opportunities and anything that will assist in meeting our mission goals.

If you have ideas we are open to hearing!
