Camp Imani 2025 Success - Thank you

By Amarachi Ezekwe | Administration

Greetings, Imani House friends and family!

We are nearing the end of Camp Imani 2025, and we would like to take the time to say thank you for all of your support! This year, we were able to provide free and enriching summer camp programming to 120 children and their families. Your donations truly make a difference.

Camp Imani was held at a new location (PS 133) this summer. In the fall, we will be back in PS 282.

Our camp takes place weekdays, Monday-Friday from 8AM to 6PM. In the mornings, we provide breakfast, then academic programming. After lunch, the campers’ afternoons consist of recreational activities, including arts and crafts, physical activities, and water play.

Specialty Activities – We offer specialty programs that encourage children’s creativity, social skills, participation, and overall development. This summer, they engaged in:

  • African Dance
  • Archery
  • American Sign LanguageDouble Dutch
  • African Drumming
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Creative Writing

Support for Children With Special Needs – This summer, we enrolled 120 campers into our program. It was a surprise that the Dept. of Education also enrolled 48 children that required accommodations which is defined as having special needs.. Although we could not afford to hire specialized staff for these special children, our own staff rose to the occasion and provided each child with the care they needed.

Literacy Tutoring Program – Children struggling to read are placed in our Literacy Tutoring Program, receiving support from our trained tutors.

Trips – Excursions are crucial to our summer program; they grant our campers the opportunity to engage with the world around them under careful supervision. Our trips encourage social-emotional development, as well as participation in our campers.

This summer, Camp Imani was able to take its campers on a new field trip every week. Campers were able to visit the Brooklyn Zoo, the Adventure Land theme park, Dave and Busters, go roller skating, bowling, and much more.

This year’s summer camp would not have been the success it was without contributions that allowed us to pay for trips, buses and added staffing to support the chidlren with special needs.  We sincerely appreciate all that you do for Imani House or others in support of community enrichement projects like summer camps for inner city children.. Thank you for considering the value of this monumental experience given to children who otherwise would have been at home sll summer.

Wishing you all the very best,

Bisi Ideraabdullah, Executive Director
